Transgender Schools Guidance – Safeguarding Concerns

Our analysis of currently available transgender guidance in relation to Department for Education statutory safeguarding guidelines such as ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children.

We first published this booklet in 2019. The last government updated and improved KCSiE by categorising ‘LGB’ and ‘gender questioning children’ separately following the Cass Review final report. However, DfE guidance Equality Act 2010 and Schools still links to GIRES, Intercom Trust and Stonewall. The booklet is still useful for comparing these organisations with DfE Safeguarding guidance in relation to: promising confidentiality to a child; parental alienation; promoting drugs and minimising risk; and erosion of sexual boundaries.
